MCM FunDome,
Odessa, TX Third Brigade Dress Mess Three members of Phoenix Squadron attended the 2016 Dress Mess: BGN Clark, LTC Clark, and CWO3 Wilkerson. The mess was HUGE -- over 45 people in attendance -- and was delightful. The food was tasty, the company pleasant. Some of the Brigade's awards were announced: LTC Tracy Clark is the 2016's Sword of Valor recipient, and (a very big surprise) BGN Tank Clark was awarded the Commandant's Meritorious Service Award.

Odessa Sector Survey,
Shuttlecraft "Caesar" Commodore Tank Clark and Commander Tracy Clark After arriving on Thursday, and resting overnight, we took our shuttle on a small cruise. We discovered very friendly life forms inhabiting the "Music City Mall" who directed us to a few of the local points of interest, one of which was this re-creation of Stonehenge. Landing Party:
Region 3 Summit & 3BDE Muster, Odessa MCM FunDome, Odessa TX Commodore Clark and Commander Clark arrived on schedule yesterday, docking the Shuttlecraft Caesar at approximately 1700. The hotel is nice, clean, and somewhat dated in design (there are doors leading from room to room, as was more common in the 1960s than today.) Our room is #103, second from the left on the ground floor in the image above. The pool is indoors and outdoors, and one may swim freely from one area to another. The hot tub is wonderful, although the no-children-under-11 rule is sadly not enforced. Happy Hour, from 1730 to 1900, includes two free drinks, as well as popcorn. The breakfast is free, and huge. Unfortunately, nothing in Odessa opens before 1000, and the museum I most want to visit isn't open except on Saturday -- and we'll miss it as we'll be participating in Summit activities. Commodore Clark reporting. Crew Meeting,

Subjects discussed included the auction for the blanket (which Chief Chaffin won); the August meeting of the Articles Committee; July's upcoming meeting (which Captain Cross will miss, so Commodore Clark will once more sit in the center seat), and the new Star Trek movie (Star Trek Beyond), for which the ship will make a dramatic appearance at the Texas Movie Bistro in Fort Worth (where we saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens.) Ship's Meeting Shady Oaks BBQ, Fort Worth First Officer Clark, reporting. The ship had another fun-filled fabulous meeting this month. In attendance were: Captain Cross, Commander Cornatzer, Commander Crouch, Commander Clark, Commodore Clark, Chief Warrant Officer Wilkerson, Rear Admiral Goulet, Master Chief Petty Officer M. Goulet, and Ensign Dittrich. We discussed lots of stuff:
Ship's Meeting/Klingon Dinner Thing Ascension and St Mark's Episcopal Church, Bridgeport, TX 1400 hours The gallant crew once more celebrated All Things Klingon at the annual Klingon Dinner Thing. In attendance were Kommander Kalamity (Tracy Clark); Ensign Kevin Liberty (our newest shipmate!); Chief Warrant Officer Glen Wilkerson; Rear Admiral Liz Goulet; Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet; Kommodore Klark, son of Konald (Tank); and our Kaptain, Klash of House DuH (Michael Cross). Food included Klingon Hash, Targ Wings, Targballs in citrus sauce, Fish Things, Wrapped Unknown Items, a couple of desserts, some chips, and so forth. Good stuff. Drinks included Bloodwine, Prune juice, punch, leaf-water infusion ("TEE"), and a beverage made from grinding dried beans. After completing STARFLEET Academy's Officer Training School, Kevin Liberty has been promoted to Ensign, with all rights and responsibilities appertaining thereto. Mr Dittrich is no longer Goat, and Mr. Liberty will replace him in that function. Doo-Dad Awards: Participation in the Landing Party to CARE: Tracy Clark, Tank Clark, Perry Brulotte, Melissa Brulotte, and Glen Wilkerson Impromptu Game Day (11602.06): Tracy Clark, Tank Clark, Perry Brulotte, Liz Goulet, Alan Goulet, Rob Dittrich Landing Party to Star Wars: The Force Awakens (11512.19): Tracy Clark, Liz Goulet, Alan Goulet, Michelle Goulet, Perry Brulotte, Melissa Brulotte, Karen Chaffin, Glen Wilkerson Order of the Cylindrical Storage Vessel of Simians (11604.16): Melissa Brulotte Many things were discussed, including investigating running a STARFLEET Ball on years opposite the IKV Melota's Klingon Ball; forming a committee to review, revise, and re-do the Ship's Articles, with said committee meeting at Shady Oaks BBQ on 11605.14 at 1500, and said committee consisting of Liz and Alan Goulet, Kevin Liberty, Tank Clark, and Michael Cross; fund raising, uniforms, and the Region 3 Summit/3BDE Muster. The location of this year's KDT was wonderful, despite people having issue locating the site. The crew is encouraged to continue searching for a more central location. Kommodore Klark, reporting. Landing Party: Center for Animal Research and Education (C.A.R.E.), Bridgeport, TX The Science Department once more led our Landing Party to the Center for Animal Research and Education (C.A.R.E.) in Bridgeport, TX (33°10'36” N, 97°45'39” W). The Landing Party consisted of Commodore Clark, Commander Clark, Lieutenant Commander Brulotte, Petty Officer Brulotte, and Chief Warrant Officer Wilkerson. The weather was beautiful, the animals amazing, and the tour was wonderful. We could not have asked for a more informative, entertaining, or enjoyable day. In the words of our Science Officer: The trip to C.A.R.E. was a great success! The weather was amazing, the company was great, and the facilities were top notch. Plus, our tour group included some children, and their reactions to the animals (and to Perry's jokes) are always entertaining. Ship's Meeting
19 Mar 2016 1500 Hours Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth, TX The crew of the USS Regulator enjoyed a fun-filled meeting and meal together. In attendance were Commodore Tank Clark, Commander Tracy Clark, Commander Cynthia Crouch, Ensign Rob Dittrich, Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet, and Rear Admiral Liz Goulet. Captain Cross and Lieutenant Colonel Marchant were on a Landing Party to All*Con; we eagerly anticipate hearing their after-action reports. Chief Warrant Officer Glen Wilkerson was attending a modeling competition on USS Joshua, at which he won third prize for his model of the YF-69 SaberCat. We discussed the upcoming Landing Party to CARE in Bridgeport, 1300 hours 26 Mar, as well as the Air Power Expo at NAS Fort Worth (featuring the USN Blue Angels and the USAF Viper Team). Everyone is also looking forward to April's Klingon Dinner Thing. We discussed Admiral Goulet's idea for a fund raiser -- 3 to 4 times a year, a member will donate an item to be auctioned off, with the money going to the ship's charity fund. The auction will be open to members of the Region, via the ship's web page, Facebook group, and the Region's Facebook page. The first item auction will occur in June. Additionally, we discussed how the ship may re-structure itself. (Traditionally, the ship's Articles -- handbook, General Orders, and Constitution -- have been revised before each ship's Elections.) This re-structure may be much more involved than previously, so we think it would be smart to get an early start, and make sure all the details are properly examined. Our conversation focused on two main points: (1) that there are currently nine Department Head positions, and we have 19 members on the ship, including the Captain and a Local member. It might better serve the ship if we went to a "Division" structure -- Gold, Blue, Red -- to have a smaller Leadership Committee. (2) The "position officers" -- Engineer, Security, Science, etc -- should, like the Captain, only serve no more than two two-year terms in each position, and for the same reason (to avoid burnout). I am writing my ideas down, but I believe we should form an Articles committee to work on the 2017 Ship's Articles; this committee should meet at least once every other month, and may perform a total re-write of the Handbook, and whatever changes to the General Orders and Constitution needed. Approval of the changes would, of course, be subject to current rules in the Articles. Obviously, we'll need to discuss this in more detail at the Klingon Dinner Thing, but I have a Google Documents folder with my ideas that I will share to any interested member. Commodore Tank Clark Ship's Meeting Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth, TX 1500 hours First Officer Clark, recording. The crew assembled for another fun-filled meeting -- this time, the Captain joined us. In attendance this month were Lieutenant Colonel Roon Marchant, Commander Tracy Clark, Master Chief Alan Goulet, Rear Admiral Liz Goulet, Master Chief Michelle Goulet, Commander Cynthia Crouch, Lieutenant Commander Sean Washburn, Commodore Tank Clark, and Captain Michael Cross. The Captain served as Officer of the Deck, and his trivia quiz resulted in a three-way tie, between Commodore Clark, Lieutenant Commander Washburn, and Lieutenant Colonel Marchant. Many things were discussed, including the success of the impromptu Game Day, the upcoming mission to CARE in Bridgeport, the upcoming Klingon Dinner Thing, and the Region 3 Summit/Third Brigade Muster in Odessa, TX in June. Commodore Clark informed everyone that he'd completed the STARFLEET Special Operations Ranger Guidebook (and we're waiting for it to be approved and re-formatted to the standard SFSO format) as well as a special guidebook for members of the 33rd Rangers -- both are available for download in the Rangers section of the ship's web site. In March, we're sending a landing party to All*Con (a local, fan-run convention) consisting of the Captain and the Chief Engineer. Landing Party: Impromptu Game Day, Pizza Hut Decatur
First Officer Clark, reporting. We discovered an urgent need to get together and play games, so a team descended on the Pizza Hut in Decatur, TX, on Saturday, 2/6/16, at 1530 hours. In attendance was: Commodore Tank Clark, Commander Tracy Clark, Lieutenant Commander Perry Brulotte, Ensign Rob Dittrich, Rear Admiral Liz Goulet, Master Chief Petty Officer A. Goulet, and Alysia Strickland -- a very good turnout considering the mission was planned only a few days before, beginning on Stardate 11602.02. Games played included Left-Center-Right (a dice game); Cards Against Humanity, Cartoon Network Fluxx, and Star Fluxx. A wonderful time was had by all. |
