Ship's Meeting
19 Mar 2016 1500 Hours Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth, TX The crew of the USS Regulator enjoyed a fun-filled meeting and meal together. In attendance were Commodore Tank Clark, Commander Tracy Clark, Commander Cynthia Crouch, Ensign Rob Dittrich, Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet, and Rear Admiral Liz Goulet. Captain Cross and Lieutenant Colonel Marchant were on a Landing Party to All*Con; we eagerly anticipate hearing their after-action reports. Chief Warrant Officer Glen Wilkerson was attending a modeling competition on USS Joshua, at which he won third prize for his model of the YF-69 SaberCat. We discussed the upcoming Landing Party to CARE in Bridgeport, 1300 hours 26 Mar, as well as the Air Power Expo at NAS Fort Worth (featuring the USN Blue Angels and the USAF Viper Team). Everyone is also looking forward to April's Klingon Dinner Thing. We discussed Admiral Goulet's idea for a fund raiser -- 3 to 4 times a year, a member will donate an item to be auctioned off, with the money going to the ship's charity fund. The auction will be open to members of the Region, via the ship's web page, Facebook group, and the Region's Facebook page. The first item auction will occur in June. Additionally, we discussed how the ship may re-structure itself. (Traditionally, the ship's Articles -- handbook, General Orders, and Constitution -- have been revised before each ship's Elections.) This re-structure may be much more involved than previously, so we think it would be smart to get an early start, and make sure all the details are properly examined. Our conversation focused on two main points: (1) that there are currently nine Department Head positions, and we have 19 members on the ship, including the Captain and a Local member. It might better serve the ship if we went to a "Division" structure -- Gold, Blue, Red -- to have a smaller Leadership Committee. (2) The "position officers" -- Engineer, Security, Science, etc -- should, like the Captain, only serve no more than two two-year terms in each position, and for the same reason (to avoid burnout). I am writing my ideas down, but I believe we should form an Articles committee to work on the 2017 Ship's Articles; this committee should meet at least once every other month, and may perform a total re-write of the Handbook, and whatever changes to the General Orders and Constitution needed. Approval of the changes would, of course, be subject to current rules in the Articles. Obviously, we'll need to discuss this in more detail at the Klingon Dinner Thing, but I have a Google Documents folder with my ideas that I will share to any interested member. Commodore Tank Clark
