Region 3 Summit/Third Brigade Muster
MCM FunDome, Odessa, TX First Officer Clark, reporting. After enjoying a delightful repast at the hotel's breakfast buffet, we all repaired to Room A for opening ceremonies. The regular speeches were made, and a good time was had by all. Immediately following Opening Ceremonies (unlike in years previous) the Third Brigade held its annual Muster. The Third Brigade enjoyed the presence of our STARFLEET Marine Corps' Commandant, Gen McGowan. The Muster was , as usual, done methodically and in good order. The members of the Brigade Staff were able to discuss things going on in our area of interest, awards were issued, questions asked and answered, and after Muster, photos were taken. Awards issued to members of Phoenix Squadron:
The panels this year were, I'm told, interesting. However, of the two I wanted to attend, one was held during the time immediately following the Brigade's Muster (when photos were being taken), so was almost over by the time I left Muster... the other was suddenly -- apparently randomly -- re-scheduled and re-located, and I was unable to attend it. There was a miniature golf tournament, held inside the hotel at it's 9-hole course right outside my room. Quite entertaining! In the evening, the Admiral's Ball was (as usual) a wonderful occasion. The food was not quite as good as at the Dress Mess, but it was okay; the charity auction garnered a large amount of money. The Final Mission ceremony was held after the meal but before the award presentations. As usual, it was very moving. Commander Clark and I volunteered fairly late in the day, to fill in for a couple of people who were not present. I'm thankful, as were I not trying to keep a military bearing, I believe I would have cried my eyes out. I had a wonderful time, and was so happy to see everyone again. On Sunday, before the Closing Ceremonies, a meeting of the Council of Commanding Officers (CCO) was held; in the absence of the Captain, I attended as Exec. There was no quorum. Clark, First Officer, USS Regulator, out.

MCM FunDome,
Odessa, TX Third Brigade Dress Mess Three members of Phoenix Squadron attended the 2016 Dress Mess: BGN Clark, LTC Clark, and CWO3 Wilkerson. The mess was HUGE -- over 45 people in attendance -- and was delightful. The food was tasty, the company pleasant. Some of the Brigade's awards were announced: LTC Tracy Clark is the 2016's Sword of Valor recipient, and (a very big surprise) BGN Tank Clark was awarded the Commandant's Meritorious Service Award. Shuttlecraft "Caesar" Commodore Tank Clark and Commander Tracy Clark After arriving on Thursday, and resting overnight, we took our shuttle on a small cruise. We discovered very friendly life forms inhabiting the "Music City Mall" who directed us to a few of the local points of interest, one of which was this re-creation of Stonehenge. Landing Party:
Region 3 Summit & 3BDE Muster, Odessa MCM FunDome, Odessa TX Commodore Clark and Commander Clark arrived on schedule yesterday, docking the Shuttlecraft Caesar at approximately 1700. The hotel is nice, clean, and somewhat dated in design (there are doors leading from room to room, as was more common in the 1960s than today.) Our room is #103, second from the left on the ground floor in the image above. The pool is indoors and outdoors, and one may swim freely from one area to another. The hot tub is wonderful, although the no-children-under-11 rule is sadly not enforced. Happy Hour, from 1730 to 1900, includes two free drinks, as well as popcorn. The breakfast is free, and huge. Unfortunately, nothing in Odessa opens before 1000, and the museum I most want to visit isn't open except on Saturday -- and we'll miss it as we'll be participating in Summit activities.
