Game Day
Pizza Hut, Decatur, TX The USS Regulator's Game Day was another great success. A good turnout: 16 people! In no particular order: Colin Gabbert, Sara Tucker, Michael Cross, Juanita Stone, Katelyn Barnett, Amanda Fralicks, Liz, Alan, & Michelle Goulet, Jake Kuykendall, Tracy & Tank Clark, with guests/prospective members Andrew, Alisha, Jesse, & Katherine. Good turnout, good fellowship, good times! Games played include: Zombie Dice, Chute 5, Battleship, Pirates of the Caribbean Battleship Commander, Star Trek Catan, Star Trek UNO, X-Wing Miniatures, and others (I lost track!) We started up around 1400, and Tracy and I left at about 2115 or so. I think everyone had fun -- I certainly had a blast -- and I'm looking forward to doing another one soon. Our waitress asked when we were planning to do it again, too. One thing I noticed was a lot of interest in playing a roleplaying game, like D&D or GURPS. To that end, I'll start researching & building a campaign of some sort. As to a venue -- this Pizza Hut is very easy for me & for a few others, but I know it's a pretty far go for many of the crew. We will begin researching to find a more centralized location for future Game Days & RPG sessions. Clark, commanding Regulator, out.

This is the report from our Pennsylvania members: (John Erb reporting) At the August 17th meeting, Eugene Connolly, Mike Leahy, Matt Arment, and myself discussed the future direction of the West Shore Regulators. Eugene suggested that there should be four officers: a president, vice-president, game master, and communications officer. We intend to hold an election for these four positions within six months. During that time we intend to engage in a membership drive to encourage people to sign up as voting members so that they can participate in that election. No dues will be charged to become a member. We only intend to ask for names and contact information. To qualify as a voting member, the candidate must attend three meetings out of the next five and state his intention to become a voting member. From now on meetings will not be restricted to only one activity. We intend to bring a variety of games and videos for the attendees to choose from, including the society's XBOX game console and its accompanying games. I will also bring my own Blu-ray player. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the FATE RPG system that Eugene will be running. Player handbooks and "fudge-dice" will be available from him at a discounted price or at That Game Place locally for $10 plus tax. The ship had another wonderful, fun meeting at our normal meeting location. In attendance this month were: BDR Clark (and his Sphynxian Treecat, Kang), COMM Goulet, MCPT Roon Marchant, LT(JG) Cross, ENS Stone, ENS Gabbert, MCPO Goulet, PO1 Goulet, and two guests. Colin Gabbert was promoted to Ensign from Crewman, upon his successful completion of OTS at STARFLEET Academy. The Captain was the Officer of the Deck, and presented a fairly difficult trivia quiz about NASA. Our intrepid Second Officer, Mr Cross, won the quiz and the prize: a book entitled "The Captain's Daughter." Meanwhile, Mr Gabbert came through with a horde of Minions for the Captain, and there was much rejoicing. Reports were given about IC and other past activities. Future items were also subject of conversation. We discussed the Game Day at the end of the month (31 Aug) -- to which Michael will bring his DVD player so we can watch (for example) Star Trek: The Animated Series episodes. The Mirror Month activities (the "How I'd Kill The Captain" essay contest, the Mirror Month Meeting, and the Mirror Month Picnic) are prompting much excitement, and we've made final plans for the Mirror Picnic. 12 October is the Klingon Dinner Thing, at which ship's promotions and awards are given out, and the ship will attempt an away mission to the Alliance Air Show on the 19th of October. Since the ship's meeting is scheduled for the same day in November as the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes (19 Nov), we're checking on an alternate location in Arlington to have that month's meeting. We also talked about the Academy (I just received my Diamond, "250" Boothby), the new training program for the 33rd STARFLEET Rangers (as well as the rest of the SFSO), and our early drafts for the new logo for the 33rd STARFLEET Rangers. Excitement and fun... that's what we're all about. Clark, commanding Regulator, out. STARFLEET International Conference 2013, Dallas, Texas The USS Regulator has a lot to be proud of. First, this year's IC was great. Good things happened, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun (I certainly did), lots of money (over $6,000) was raised for our charities, much alcohol was consumed (not too much by me), lots of important business was done by those poor souls that do such things (not me, thanks be to Him!), awards were given, and lots of new friends were made, and old friends seen again. As usual, when things needed to be done, people turned to those they knew could get it done: the intrepid crew of the USS Regulator. Three Regulators served on IC Staff: BDR Clark as Head of Security; LCDR Clark as Head of Decorations; and LT(JG) Cross as Head of Transportation. Security is proud to report that there were no theft of money or materials during the IC. In addition to providing watchful eyeballs at Registration, we had our EMH temporarily repurposed as an ESH (Emergency Security Hologram), who guarded the Quartermasters in the Auction/Dealer room. BDR Clark's Security Detail consisted of: LCDR Tracy Clark (of the USS Regulator, Third Fleet) MCPT Roon Marchant (of the USS Regulator, Third Fleet) MCPT Vince Silmon (of the USS Regulator, Third Fleet) ENS Perry Brulotte, (of the USS Regulator, Third Fleet) CAPT T.J. Allen (of Space Station Robert de Bruce, First Fleet) MCPT Sarah Hays (of the 340th MEU, 3BDE) and LCDR Jessie Hench (of Ark Angel Station, Third Fleet) I could not have functioned this weekend without these men and women -- most of whom are, of course, Regulators . BRAVO ZULU. Our glorious CMO was busy, too. Although she'd collected the supplies for decorating the ballroom before the IC, LCDR Clark still had to recruit a staff of assistants & helpers on-site. Her ingenuity, creativity, and leadership skills were demonstrated for all of STARFLEET, and the proof is in the image above. Simply gorgeous. BRAVO ZULU. Meanwhile, still more Regulators coordinated and assisted with getting people from the various airports to and from the IC Hotel. Commanding this department was our own Ops Officer & Bridge Department Head, LT(JG) Michael Cross, assisted by MCPT Vince Silmon (who picked up the IC's special guest, Vaughn Armstrong, from Love Field on Friday evening) and ENS Perry Brulotte (who picked up a differently-abled individual whose name escapes me at this moment from DFW Airport). Mr Cross also escorted Mr Armstrong all weekend. BRAVO ZULU On Friday night, the SFMC held its Marine Mess, and instead of being a formal affair, we were all in our Class C uniforms. Before the Mess, Marines and other guests congregated in the hotel's lounge for drinks & socializing. Whilst many people settled for Earther drinks like "beer" or "martinis", or muddled through with Romulan Ale (Blue Curaco and Gin), I ensured the bartender was able to distribute an honorable beverage: Bloodwine. As a member of the staff of the hosting Brigade, I was seated at the head table. During the toasts, I called attention to the unfortunate fact that Michael Ansara, the actor who so wonderfully portrayed the Klingon Captain Kang, had passed on to serve in the Black Fleet in Stovokor the day before (Stardate 11307.31) at the age of 91. I called for a Death Howl, to warn those in Stovokor that a warrior is coming. Afterwards, Vaughn leaned over to remind me that he played the Klingon Captain Korris in the ST:TNG episode "Heart of Glory," and as such participated in the very first Howl. Opening Ceremonies was held following the Mess. (I served as rifle bearer in the Honor Guard -- once again, if something important is being done, a Regulator is probably there.) Following Opening Ceremonies, we repaired to the Hospitality Suite, where much more Bloodwine, Green Stuff, and Hard Gagh was consumed and where friendships were formed. Tales of glorious battles were shared, and Earthers, Klingons, Vulcans, Romulans, Andorians, and many other peoples had a wonderful time. Captain Korris was there, once more disguised as Vaughn Armstrong. (He enjoyed the gagh I brought, as well as several glasses of Bloodwine, Green Stuff, rum, and whiskey.) Saturday was General Sessions -- at which MCPT Roon Marchant was named to STARFLEET Academy's 2012 RED SQUAD for his work in the College of Mythological Studies. BRAVO ZULU again. Following General Sessions, and lunch, we all went to various panels. Members of the 333rd who attended International Muster include: BDR Clark, LCDR Clark, MCPT Marchant, and MCPT Silmon. After Muster, some of us also attended the SFSO meeting, and I'm very excited about the direction the SFSO is taking. Eventually, the Admiral's Ball was held. The decorations were awesome, the music was great (and the DJ was amazing), the food was -- well, hotel food -- and it was grand seeing so many people in dress uniforms. (There were too many uncultured Earthers wearing t-shirts, but I won't harp about that.) The Charity Auction was astounding, and I even danced a bit with my beautiful bride/Chief Medical Officer. Sunday morning was highly anticipated: about $2,500 was raised just for the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of Vice Admiral Marian L. Murphy (the IC Chairperson) Two pies, in fact: one by Vaughn Armstrong and one by Fleet Admiral David Blaiser. Glory! After Closing Ceremonies, our shuttle was loaded & I returned to the ship, along with the EMH, with LCDR Clark piloting. Those of you who were there with me, please send a report on your activities to our Communications Officer, for inclusion in our newsletter & submission to the Fleet Channels & possibly to the Communique. The Regulator is ruling IC! So far -- And we just got started -- Regulator crew have served as Security (Tank, Tracy, Perry, Michael, & Vince -- and the repurposed EMH), Honor Guard (Tank, Michael), Shuttle Pilots (Perry, Vince -- who picked up Admiral Vaughn Armstrong), and we sat at the Head Table during the Marine Mess. We did a Death Howl for Captain Kang (Michael Ansara) who joined the Black Fleet in Stovokor on Thursday. We have partied with folks from all over STARFLEET. I even shared bloodline with Vaughn & other SFI members. Today, We have more folks serving on Security details, escorting Vaughn Armstrong, decorating for the Admirals Ball, and just plain being awesome. We're good at that, Clark, commanding Regulator, out |
