USS Regulator Charity Dinner
Ascension and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Bridgeport, TX The USS Regulator held a dinner and auction to raise money for our two charities, the Wise County Committee on Aging (WCCA) and the Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE). Tracy Clark made a wonderful meal of lasagna, cheesy bread, salad, and a couple of deserts for everyone. Many people who were unable to come bought tickets anyway, just to donate to our charities. Many others donated items for the raffle. Between the raffle and the dinner and the other donations, we raised $641. 22 Oct 2016
Ship's Meeting, et cetera ad nauseum Shady Oaks BBQ, Fort Worth, TX. In October, the USS Regulator temporarily becomes the ISS Regulator, and enjoys a brief spell in the Mirror Universe. At our ship's Awards/Promotions /business meeting, the crew gathered to enjoy comradery and barbeque. Present at this meeting were Captain Cross, MCPOs Alan and Michelle Goulet, Commodore Clark, Commander Clark, Commander Crouch, and Rear Admiral Goulet. Plans were discussed, awards were given out, and reports were given. All the scheduled promotions were postponed, until the recipients were in attendance. Master Chief Alan Goulet was rightfully awarded the Member of the Year. First Officer Clark reporting VMFA-333, “Phoenix Squadron” Landing Party
Brigadier General Clark, OIC, reporting. Members of Phoenix Squadron toured the Fort Worth Aviation Museum today. This museum celebrates the history of aviation in Fort Worth, including local military airfields (past and present). There were displays on some of the aircraft that were produced locally, like the F-16, and on the historical aviation events that included Fort Worth. For example, the first non-stop round-the-world flight started and landed in Fort Worth: a USAF B-50, which was mid-air refueled several times in its journey. The Landing Party consisted of Lieutenant Colonel Tracy Clark, Commander Cynthia Crouch, Major Perry Brulotte, and Brigadier General Tank Clark. The “petting zoo” was the best part of the museum. The aircraft on display (missing such parts as engines) included an F-5, an A-7, a CH-53, an F-14, an F/A-18, and many, many more. Of course, OUR focus was on the F-4 Phantom II in the livery of the USMC’s VMFA-333. Our squadron was not deliberately named after this one, but serendipity is a wonderful thing. Following an enjoyable tour, we then relocated to “Heaven’s Gate”, a Mexican-American restaurant nearby that had wonderful food and pretty good service. A great day, with a great bunch of people. Clark, commanding the 333rd MSG, out There were a few Regulators in attendance at FenCon XIII, held at the DFW Westin hotel in Irving, TX, including Glen, Tank, Tracy, and Roon. We also met up with other Region 3 members Jeremy Carsten, Kelly Hays, and Sarah Hays. Much fun was had by all.
Ship's Meeting
1500 hrs, 17 Sep 2016 Shady Oaks BBQ First Officer Clark reporting. The salient crew of the USS Regulator once again gathered for its monthly meeting. Present at the September meeting were Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet, Master Chief Petty Officer Michelle Goulet, Chief Warrant Officer Glen Wilkerson, Commander Tracy Clark, Commander Cynthia Crouch, Commander Scott Cornatzer, Lieutenant Colonel Roon Marchant, Captain Michael Cross, Brigadier General Tank Clark, and Rear Admiral Liz Goulet. Tank presented this month’s quiz – on the subject of the TOS episode “The Man Trap”. Michael won, and Scott came in last. We will be each purchasing our own polos, and giving them to Glen (along with $11 each) for his contact to embroider the ship’s logo thereupon. We discussed upcoming activities: FenCon, the Fort Worth Aviation Museum landing party, the Dallas Fan Days convention, the Alliance Air Show, the Lone Star Warrior’s Association’s Grapevine Good Day to Dine walkabout, the charity dinner in November, the Build-a-Bear Landing Party, the Game Day Landing Party, the upcoming meetings in October (re-scheduled to 22 Oct), November, and December, as well as looking into the possibility of having an Informational/Charity table at a cinema for Star Wars: Rogue One. Our holiday party (with Ferengi gift exchange) will coincide with our January meeting, at which the Election Officer will be selected. We’ve also decided to move our April meeting (with its CO Elections, Division Leader Elections, Promotions, Awards, and – of course – the Klingon Dinner Thing) to 22 April, to allow the ship to participate in the Aurora Alien Festival (in Aurora, TX) on 15 April. As always, we remain a happy, busy, ship looking forward to a bright future! Clark, First Officer, out. Ship's Meeting Sat 20 Aug 2016, 1500 hours Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth First Officer Clark reporting. The mighty crew of the USS Regulator joined together once again for its monthly meeting: a fun-filled fabulous day, indeed. Present at the August meeting were Master Chief Petty Officer Alan Goulet, Chief Warrant Officer Glen Wilkerson, Ensign Rob Dittrich, Lieutenant Commander Perry Brulotte, Commander Tracy Clark, Captain Michael Cross, Brigadier General Tank Clark, and Rear Admiral Liz Goulet. Michael presented this month’s quiz, with questions regarding the Original Series. Glen won, with a perfect score, and was awarded a Matrix-themed puzzle. Michael also presented Tank with an awesome and much-appreciated Bond (Connery) print, signed by the artist, as a gesture of gratitude for Tank filling the center seat in the Captain’s absence. (Tank hung it on the wall of his office at work.) The crew thoroughly enjoyed a discussion about the movie Star Trek: Beyond and the upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery. Other discussions included Landing Parties to FenCon, the Fort Worth Aviation Museum, and to the Build-a-Bear Workshop; a Charity Dinner in November, a Charity/Info table for Star Wars: Rogue One; the October Mirror, Mirror Month/Promotions/Awards meeting; the selection of an Election Officer in January, for the April elections of the Captain and Division Officers; and maybe having a presence at the Aurora, TX Alien Festival in April. We also had a nice conversation about ship’s polos. The embroidered polo that Glen was wearing was very nice, and we have decided to order plain polos in a bulk order and have them embroidered by his contact. As always, we remain a happy, busy, ship looking forward to a bright future! Clark, First Officer, out. Landing Party: Star Trek Beyond movie Texas Movie Bistro, 3980 Boat Club Road, Ft Worth, TX First Officer Clark, reporting. Members of the USS Regulator gathered to watch the latest Star Trek movie. In attendance were Commodore Clark, Commander Clark, and Chief Warrant Officer Wilkerson. The movie was quite enjoyable, and much more in the spirit of the Original Series than the other films set in the Kelvin Timeline. Many pleasant conversations were also held with other movie-goers and staff at the cinema, and we hope to see some of them at upcoming meetings and events. As a side comment, I quite liked the redesigned uniforms, both the ones worn on ship and the ones worn on the space station. Ship's Meeting Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth 1500 Hours First Officer Clark, reporting. The intrepid crew of the USS Regulator gathered again to share a meal, talk Trek, enjoy each other's company, and to be generally awesome. Members in attendance included Michael Cross; Tank and Tracy Clark; Melissa and Perry Brulotte; Scott Cornatzer; Alan, Liz, and Michelle Goulet; and Glen Wilkerson. Commodore Clark was Officer of the Deck, and as such, he presented this month's trivia quiz. The subject this month was the Original Series episode Wolf in the Fold. Captain Cross was this month's winner. We discussed plans for upcoming activities. First on our list is the Landing Party to see the new Star Trek movie, Star Trek: Beyond, at the Texas Movie Bistro, 3980 Boat Club Road, Ft Worth, 76135. Admiral Goulet will provide us with movie times as they become available, but we'll try to have a presence at the cinema for as long as we can. Captain Cross brought in the big box of our new business cards; they're very nice, and we're looking forward to distributing them. The next meeting for the Ship's Articles Committee is scheduled for 1500 hours on 13 August at Shady Oaks BBQ. This meeting may be cancelled as redundant, however -- the 2017 Articles are available for download (at http://ussregulator.weebly.com/uploads/1/3/0/5/13055239/regulator_articles_2017_160520.pdf); however, no one has recently found any corrections or other edits that are needed. Captain Cross will determine if we decide to cancel. FenCon is approaching, on the weekend of 24 September 2016 (11609.24); many of the crew are planning to attend. Upcoming Landing Parties include one to FenCon, the Marines' trip to the Fort Worth Aviation Museum, a possible trip to a Build-A-Bear to build Trek-related bears, a couple of possible Laser Tag excursions, as well as Chief Warrant Officer Wilkerson's "phaser practice." December's meeting will also probably be replaced by a Landing Party to see Star Wars: Rogue One, as it comes out on our meeting day -- it is hoped that the Sci-Fi Factory will be hosting the movie. Along with Landing Parties, we discussed how we really should have a single, "uniform" appearance -- and this led to a discussion about purchasing polo shirts with the new "Wrath of Khan"-style logo. This discussion continues in our Facebook group; hopefully we can get everyone into a polo by our next away mission (in August or September.) Region 3 Summit/Third Brigade Muster
MCM FunDome, Odessa, TX First Officer Clark, reporting. After enjoying a delightful repast at the hotel's breakfast buffet, we all repaired to Room A for opening ceremonies. The regular speeches were made, and a good time was had by all. Immediately following Opening Ceremonies (unlike in years previous) the Third Brigade held its annual Muster. The Third Brigade enjoyed the presence of our STARFLEET Marine Corps' Commandant, Gen McGowan. The Muster was , as usual, done methodically and in good order. The members of the Brigade Staff were able to discuss things going on in our area of interest, awards were issued, questions asked and answered, and after Muster, photos were taken. Awards issued to members of Phoenix Squadron:
The panels this year were, I'm told, interesting. However, of the two I wanted to attend, one was held during the time immediately following the Brigade's Muster (when photos were being taken), so was almost over by the time I left Muster... the other was suddenly -- apparently randomly -- re-scheduled and re-located, and I was unable to attend it. There was a miniature golf tournament, held inside the hotel at it's 9-hole course right outside my room. Quite entertaining! In the evening, the Admiral's Ball was (as usual) a wonderful occasion. The food was not quite as good as at the Dress Mess, but it was okay; the charity auction garnered a large amount of money. The Final Mission ceremony was held after the meal but before the award presentations. As usual, it was very moving. Commander Clark and I volunteered fairly late in the day, to fill in for a couple of people who were not present. I'm thankful, as were I not trying to keep a military bearing, I believe I would have cried my eyes out. I had a wonderful time, and was so happy to see everyone again. On Sunday, before the Closing Ceremonies, a meeting of the Council of Commanding Officers (CCO) was held; in the absence of the Captain, I attended as Exec. There was no quorum.
