Landing Party: Dallas Comic and Pop Expo Richardson, Tx The hard-working crew of the USS REGULATOR attended the inaugural Dallas Comic & Pop Expo (DCP) at the Richardson Civic Center. In attendance were Ensign Collin Gabbert, Commander Tracy Clark, Brigadier Tank Clark, and Lieutenant Michael Cross (who served as the Officer of the Deck for this activity.) We also brought out quite a few tribbles, which we sold -- or occasionally gave away -- to attendees. Other props we brought included the Captain's bat'leth, a couple of tricorders, a communicator, several phasers, and some books of usual interest. In addition to mannng our table, we also served as volunteers at DCP. Our Landing Party guarded restricted areas & other access points, helping convention staff and attendees. Several people expressed interest in STARFLEET, and we interacted well with convention staff, attendees, and people from the other booths. Our neighbors to our right were the 501st Legion, and to the left were a group selling cupcakes to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. Special mention: Ensign Gabbert had worked his civilian job all night the night before the DCP, and stayed awake and helpful all day long. His dedication to duty is exemplary, and in the highest traditions of STARFLEET and the USS REGULATOR. Also, Lieutenant Cross worked very hard as the point of contact for the ship with the DCP. It was through him that we got the opportunity to attend and work the DCP, and it was his contacts with the organizers and staff of the DCP that brought us to the expo. On Sunday, he was the only member of the REGULATOR able to attend, so he ran the booth alone. This hard work and dedication to the ship and to STARFLEET is praiseworthy, and in the highest traditions of the service. Clark, commanding REGULATOR, out. Landing Party: Movie watching -- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, at the Fossil Creek UA 14 Cinema, Ft Worth, TX A rather impromptu landing party gathered for the opening weekend of the second of three Hobbit movies. On this mission were: BDR Clark, CDR Clark, LT Cross, and ENS Gabbert. The movie was fun, the company was pleasant, and the after-movie dinner at nearby Denny's was great, too. It's always nice to do things with friends. Clark, commanding The Regulator participated once again in the American Diabetes Association's Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. We arrived at Quick Trip Park (the home of the minor-league baseball team, the Grand Prairie Airhogs) at around 0800. After checking in, and turning in our money, we collected the random swag offered to the walkers and awaited the proper time to begin the 5 kilometer stroll. Present were BDR Clark, LT Cross, and CDR Clark. We completed the circuit in a leisurely hour and nine minutes. Although the day was cloudy, it was fairly warm and comfortable. The walk was enjoyable, and we raised around $600 for the ADA. A few hours later, the crew gathered once more at Shady Oaks BBQ for our regular monthly meeting. COMM Goulet, MCPO Goulet, CPO Goulet, PO Chaffin, MCPT Marchant, CDR Crouch, and the intrepid walkers from the morning Landing Party (BDR Clark, CDR Clark, & LT Cross) all participated in yet another fun-filled afternoon. Plans for our Christmas party/meeting were discussed, awards (dating from IC) were passed out, and wonderful food was consumed. Clark, commanding Regulator, out ZONE 1 GAME DAY Sponsored by the USS Regulator Sci-Fi Factory, Fort Worth, TX Region 3 held a different kind of Game Day this year; each Zone was to put on their own at the same time, and some of the Zones were able to coordinate playing an online game against each other. Zone 1 did not participate in the online gaming, but we had a small number of dedicated people turn out for some fun playing board games with each other. Attending Game Day in Zone 1 were: COMM Goulet, MCPO Alan Goulet, LT Michael Cross, MCPT Roon Marchant, ENS Colin Gabbert, CDR Tracy Clark, and BDR Tank Clark. Several games were played, including Trivial Pursuit and Star Trek UNO, and even more games were purchased, including the new Star Wars RPG (bought by Michael) and Axis & Allies: War At Sea (bought by Tank). BRAVO ZULU to LT Cross, for organizing and running this event. Clark, commanding Regulator, out. Star Trekker Treat
Fort Worth Museum of Science & History Two of the Regulator's Klingons, Klark and Kalamity, arrived via shuttle at approximately 1750 hours. We parked in a garage across the street from the museum, and walked into the front doors. We had to pass a fairly large dinosaur to do so. Upon entry, we checked in (receiving our tickets for the IMAX showing of Star Trek: Into Darkness) and wandered around, visiting with other attendees. Relatively few people were in Star Trek garb, and most who were seemed to be wearing the "Rubies" off-the-shelf Halloween costumes. Oddly enough, the costume contest was won by someone in a Kirk shirt from Rubies, who was carrying a toy phaser. (This was upsetting, as the web site requested that no prop weapons be carried -- otherwise, Klark would have been carrying his disruptor.) Regardless, we received a lot of complements from the other attendees. Games were played: a "Tribble Toss" (bean bags covered with fur, thrown towards a box with a hole in it) and a ring toss towards bottles painted with the Klingon Empire logo. There was a table with a display, claiming to translate English letters to Klingon letters. This was obviously erroneous, as the English letters listed were all capitals, which means there could not be a difference between "q" (as in "qang") and "Q" (as in Qo'nos"). This was the first time I've seen a movie in IMAX format. It proved difficult to watch, as things appeared curved strangely, and it was troubling to see each and every pore on Admiral Pike's face. Following the movie, we returned to our shuttle and proceeded home through the rain, arriving home at about 2300 hours. Overall: it was fun, and I'm glad we went, but we might not go to a similar event. Away Mission: Alliance Air Show, Fort Worth, TX The landing party to the Air Show consisted of the Captain, BDR Clark, and the ship's CMO, CDR Clark. We arrived on site around 0900 local time, and quickly blended in with the crowd. There were a wide variety of aircraft on static display, ranging from small private planes (including a very small glider) and large cargo ships (like a FedEx 757), to WW2 vintage aircraft (including 8 Zeros, a B-24, a B-29, several Cargo aircraft, a P-40 Warhawk, a Mustang, and many others). There was an old Soviet MiG-17, too. There were also ground vehicles: several WW2-vintage jeeps, trucks, and half-tracks; quite a few motorcycles -- most with sidecars -- from that era; an assault gun (self-propelled artillery); and a M50 Super Sherman tank. A part of an old Air Force One was on display, with the interior decorated as it was when President L. B. Johnson was sworn in. Several T-38s were on-site as well, both as static displays and as part of the airshow. Food was moderately priced, for this type of event. Very few vendors took anything but cash. In the future, we'll also make sure we wear & bring sun-screen, as our faces became very burnt. The air show itself was very enjoyable, although each of the propeller-driven aircraft seemed to do the same tricks that the one before did. As the military demonstration squadrons were shut down by the current U.S. President's government, none of them were in attendance, but a civilian team called the Black Diamonds performed in T-38s -- a beautiful aircraft, and an awesome show. Perhaps the best part of the show was when the Japanese aircraft belonging to the Commemorative Air Force (what used to be called the Confederate Air Force) did mock bombing/strafing runs on the airfield. This part of the show, called "TORA, TORA, TORA!" included a large amount of pyrotechnics, and was amazing to witness. Fun was had by all who attended, and those who were unable to attend were missed. Clark, commanding Regulator, out Captain's Battle Blog, ISS Regulator; Flip's Patio Grill, Fort Worth, TX ----------------- Weather prohibited our invasion of a park in Fort Worth to hold our "Mirror Month Picnic," so the Imperial Star Ship Regulator sent her landing party to conquer a restaurant called Flips, not too far away. This was an excellent choice for a secondary target. The natives were easily subdued and joined the Terran Empire without argument, and we spent a few hours enjoying the food and beverages they had to offer. The patio was cool and comfortable, the food was tasty, the beverages enjoyable. We spliced the mainbrace joyfully. The landing party consisted of: BDR Tank Clark, COMM Liz Goulet, LCDR Tracy Clark, MCPT Roon Marchant, LTJG Michael Cross, ENS Perry Brulotte, MCPO Alan Goulet, and PO1 Michelle Goulet. Melissa Brulotte also joined us. A brief contest of knowledge was headed by Roon, regarding the glory of the "Mirror" universe: Tank and Perry won first and last place, respectively. It was agreed that we should return to this place again, and that we should find other places to invade at random intervals. Clark, commanding ISS Regula Lone Star Warrior's Association Good Day to Dine Yummy's Greek Restaurant, Denton, TX The USS Regulator sent a landing party to Denton, TX to rendezvous with members of the IKV Melota, the USS Trinity River, the IKS Maelstrom, and the USS Joshua. As Klingons, we all invaded Yummy's Restaurant, a small provider of food from the region of Earth called "Greece." Regulator crew included Klark, the ship's Captain; Kalamity, the Chief Medical Officer; and Crewman Colin Gabbert. The food was good, and except for the leaves-in-a-bowl the Earther kuve called "salads", was easy to eat properly -- with the hands. The company was enjoyable, and many stories of glorious deeds were shared. When we were finished with our repast, a decision was made for the location of the next Good Day to Dine: we will be invading Pappadeaux Seafood Restaurant in Arlington, on Sunday 29 September 2013 (Stardate 11309.29), at 1600 hours (4pm). The combined landing party then signed a document stating that the inhabitants of "Yummy's" were conquered this day (in Earther-speak, it was referred to as a "Certificate of Appreciation") and we adjourned. Three of the shuttles then proceeded to a store called "Jo'Anns fabriqs," at which we requisitioned materials for the construction of additional Klingon clothing. This was a wonderful day, wherin all of today's members of the Lone Star Warrior's Association gathered unto themselves much glory and honor. Landing Party: Fossil Creek UA Cinema, Fort Worth, TX Star Trek: Into Darkness recruiting table The USS Regulator sent out lots of landing parties Saturday. Landing Party Alfa, consisting of the Captain, First Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Security Chief, and Ship's Counselor, transported to the Fossil Creek Cinema to talk to people about STARFLEET and the USS Regulator. Several people stopped by to talk with us. We rotated positions often, allowing those of us who hadn't yet seen the movie to enjoy it ourselves. As usual, time will only tell if we'll increase in membership, but we succeeded in our mission of advertising the existence -- and awesomeness -- of the ship. Meanwhile, Landing Party Bravo, consisting of our West Shore Regulators in conjunction with an element of the Royal Mantacoran Navy, the HMS Manticore, went to see the movie at the FLAGSHIP Theatre, Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA. A total of 8 persons participated in this landing party, and they went out for dinner afterwards at a Chinese buffet. Our third team, Landing Party Charlie, consisting of our Second Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Science Officer, and our Conn officer, transported to the Irving Convention Center (Irving, TX) to enjoy the Dallas Comic-Con. I'm eagerly awaiting a more detailed report, but early reports indicate much fun was had by all. I foresee an image with one or more of the ensigns in this party standing near a TARDIS... Upon returning to the ship, I've discovered my personal supply of bloodwine missing from my quarters. I suppose with most of the senior crew (as well as many of the junior officers) away from the ship on one of these landing parties, someone decided it was safe to "party." My disrupter doesn't have an "awesome," "fabulous," or "dark side" setting, nor does it have a stun setting, but it does have a "It will NEVER happen again!" setting. |
