Star Trekker Treat
Fort Worth Museum of Science & History Two of the Regulator's Klingons, Klark and Kalamity, arrived via shuttle at approximately 1750 hours. We parked in a garage across the street from the museum, and walked into the front doors. We had to pass a fairly large dinosaur to do so. Upon entry, we checked in (receiving our tickets for the IMAX showing of Star Trek: Into Darkness) and wandered around, visiting with other attendees. Relatively few people were in Star Trek garb, and most who were seemed to be wearing the "Rubies" off-the-shelf Halloween costumes. Oddly enough, the costume contest was won by someone in a Kirk shirt from Rubies, who was carrying a toy phaser. (This was upsetting, as the web site requested that no prop weapons be carried -- otherwise, Klark would have been carrying his disruptor.) Regardless, we received a lot of complements from the other attendees. Games were played: a "Tribble Toss" (bean bags covered with fur, thrown towards a box with a hole in it) and a ring toss towards bottles painted with the Klingon Empire logo. There was a table with a display, claiming to translate English letters to Klingon letters. This was obviously erroneous, as the English letters listed were all capitals, which means there could not be a difference between "q" (as in "qang") and "Q" (as in Qo'nos"). This was the first time I've seen a movie in IMAX format. It proved difficult to watch, as things appeared curved strangely, and it was troubling to see each and every pore on Admiral Pike's face. Following the movie, we returned to our shuttle and proceeded home through the rain, arriving home at about 2300 hours. Overall: it was fun, and I'm glad we went, but we might not go to a similar event.
