USS Regulator Game Day/Charity Fund Raiser Sci-Fi Factory, Fort Worth, TX The crew of the Regulator participated in an awesome fund-raiser held by the Sci-Fi Factory, our Official Shore Leave Location. COSPLAYers from all over the area joined together to help raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, succeeding in raising over $1000! Regulator crew present included: BDR Clark LT Cross MCPT Marchant LTJG Brulotte ENS Gabbert and Crewman Strickland We posed for pictures, we donated our time & our money, we bought items in the silent auction, and we generally did what the Regulator is known for: we were friendly, helpful representatives of STARFLEET. Later, we also played an adventure of the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG (by Goodman Games). Much fun was had, and many characters killed gloriously -- and sometimes in silly fashion. Everyone enjoyed it, and we're looking forward to playing again soon. Clark, commanding Regulator, out.

Good Day to Dine Lone Star Warriors' Association Zennia Thai & Japanese, Dallas, TX Eleven people, representing USS Regulator, USS Trinity River, USS Joshua, IKS Maelstrom, IKV Melota, Fleet 31, and a local Steampunk cosplay group, met at Zennia Thai & Japanese Restaurant in Dallas, Tx, to celebrate how awesome Klingons are. BDR Clark (as Captain Klark), CDR Clark, (as Commander Kalamity), and Chief Warrent Officer Wilkerson (a local member of the ship) represented the Regulator. Lots of fun was had, lots & lots of food was consumed, and tales of glory and honor were shared. The next Good Day to Dine will be in June, at the Gold Mine BBQ in Denton, Tx. Qa'pla! Clark, commanding Regulator, out. Ship's Meeting Shady Oaks BBQ, Ft Worth, TX A very fun meeting this month. Lots of things happened. First, Alysia Strickland & Glen Wilkerson both joined the ship as Local members. Glen is a member of the USS Joshua, and he will maintain his rank from that fan club. This brings our membership up to 26 National members, 11 Local, and two Honorary, for a total of 39. BDR Clark's new Voyager-style uniform was talked about; CDR Clark took a few weeks to make it, and has offered to make similar ones for anyone who wants one. The ship has $94.75 in our treasury, thanks to dues payments, donations, and $47.68 in tribble sales at Dallas Comic & Pop Expo. There were two winners of our monthly Trivia quiz (this month, it was "Gate, Wars, or Trek") As always, we discussed upcoming activities, including April's Game Day at Sci-Fi Factory, the Promotions/Awards "Spring Dining Thing" at the Trail Dust Steakhouse in Arlington, and more. We also discussed recent activities: Lt Cross gave an After Action Report on A-Kon, BDR Clark gave an After Action Report on the USS Artemis' commissioning, as well as the Dallas Comic & Pop Expo (who have invited us back!) BDR Clark also gave Letters of Commendation to LT Cross & ENS Gabbert for their above-and-beyond efforts at DCP. ENS Amanda Fralicks has expressed a desire to step down as Chief Science Officer; as per the Ship's Articles (General Order 3.1 Special Elections, A. Department Head) the Notice of an Open Department Heads position will be announced at the April meeting & published in the March newsletter. Letters of Intent will be required for those interested in the position by 15:00 hours 17 May 14 (Stardate 11405.17/1500) Meanwhile, ENS Gabbert will serve as Acting CSO. Clark, commanding Regulator, out. Landing Party: Dallas Comic and Pop Expo Richardson, Tx The hard-working crew of the USS REGULATOR attended the inaugural Dallas Comic & Pop Expo (DCP) at the Richardson Civic Center. In attendance were Ensign Collin Gabbert, Commander Tracy Clark, Brigadier Tank Clark, and Lieutenant Michael Cross (who served as the Officer of the Deck for this activity.) We also brought out quite a few tribbles, which we sold -- or occasionally gave away -- to attendees. Other props we brought included the Captain's bat'leth, a couple of tricorders, a communicator, several phasers, and some books of usual interest. In addition to mannng our table, we also served as volunteers at DCP. Our Landing Party guarded restricted areas & other access points, helping convention staff and attendees. Several people expressed interest in STARFLEET, and we interacted well with convention staff, attendees, and people from the other booths. Our neighbors to our right were the 501st Legion, and to the left were a group selling cupcakes to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. Special mention: Ensign Gabbert had worked his civilian job all night the night before the DCP, and stayed awake and helpful all day long. His dedication to duty is exemplary, and in the highest traditions of STARFLEET and the USS REGULATOR. Also, Lieutenant Cross worked very hard as the point of contact for the ship with the DCP. It was through him that we got the opportunity to attend and work the DCP, and it was his contacts with the organizers and staff of the DCP that brought us to the expo. On Sunday, he was the only member of the REGULATOR able to attend, so he ran the booth alone. This hard work and dedication to the ship and to STARFLEET is praiseworthy, and in the highest traditions of the service. Clark, commanding REGULATOR, out. The ship had another awesome meeting today at Shady Oaks BBQ.
In attendance today were: MCPT Roon Marchant, ENS Colin Gabbert, LT Michael Cross, COMM Liz Goulet, CPO Michelle Goulet, MCPO Alan Goulet, LT Scott Cornatzer, BDR Tank Clark, CDR Tracy Clark, and our new officer, LTJG Sean Washburn, as well as his wife Laura. Sean and Roon both had a perfect score on the trivia quiz: Sean received the book, "The Great Starship Race", and Roon got a poster from the new Robocop poster. Roon gave an after-action report on the Sci-Fi Expo (08-09 Feb). We then discussed the Region 3 RC special election, the situation with COMM Bates, the open position of VCS, the R3 Summit, and all of the various activities in March and April that the ship will be participating in. We talked about the Dallas Comic & Pop Expo in Richardson on 01 & 02 Mar. This should be a lot of fun, and hopefully we'll let a few people who don't know about STARFLEET know how fun & awesome SFI -- and the USS Regulator -- is. We're delaying the Mutants and Masterminds game from 08 Mar to the next Game Day in April. The regular ship's meeting for March will be delayed until the 22nd, as some of the crew will be going to All-Con X and I will be going to the commissioning ceremony for the USS Artemis. The ship's April meeting has been moved back a week (to avoid the Easter weekend), and as it's the Spring Dining Thing (promotions/awards, etc), we'll be dressing up a bit. This year, the SDT will be at the Trail Dust in Arlington, and will start at 3pm. Other things we talked about:
To sum up, lots of things to do, lots of fun to have. Life's great on the Regulator! Clark, commanding Regulator, out. Ship's Meeting & Christmas Party Shady Oaks BBQ Ft Worth, TX The meeting this month was oriented almost completely towards having fun. In attendance were: BDR Clark, CDR Clark, COMM Goulet, MCPO Goulet, CPO Goulet, LT Cross, MCPT Marchant, and ENS Gabbart. CWO Glen Wilkerson (of the USS Joshua) joined us today as well. The meeting started with a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity: Pirate Edition. Very fun game -- a little risque, but still a lot of fun. Glen won the prize round, and thereby won a 2009 movie version Hot Wheel Enterprise toy. The business portion of the meeting passed very quickly -- mainly because decisions on future events were passed over for next month's meeting. Chief Michelle Goulet distributed cupcakes to celebrate the July-to-December birthdays of our crew (tasty!), and we then held our traditional Ferengi Gift Exchange. It was lots of fun... there were a lot of very interesting gifts. Special note: LTJG Brulotte sent a personal gift to me along for me (as he was unable to attend the meeting). This was totally unexpected, and the gift itself was very thoughtful and totally awesome: "A Klingon Khristmas". Maj! Clark, Commanding Regulator, out. The Regulator participated once again in the American Diabetes Association's Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. We arrived at Quick Trip Park (the home of the minor-league baseball team, the Grand Prairie Airhogs) at around 0800. After checking in, and turning in our money, we collected the random swag offered to the walkers and awaited the proper time to begin the 5 kilometer stroll. Present were BDR Clark, LT Cross, and CDR Clark. We completed the circuit in a leisurely hour and nine minutes. Although the day was cloudy, it was fairly warm and comfortable. The walk was enjoyable, and we raised around $600 for the ADA. A few hours later, the crew gathered once more at Shady Oaks BBQ for our regular monthly meeting. COMM Goulet, MCPO Goulet, CPO Goulet, PO Chaffin, MCPT Marchant, CDR Crouch, and the intrepid walkers from the morning Landing Party (BDR Clark, CDR Clark, & LT Cross) all participated in yet another fun-filled afternoon. Plans for our Christmas party/meeting were discussed, awards (dating from IC) were passed out, and wonderful food was consumed. Clark, commanding Regulator, out ZONE 1 GAME DAY Sponsored by the USS Regulator Sci-Fi Factory, Fort Worth, TX Region 3 held a different kind of Game Day this year; each Zone was to put on their own at the same time, and some of the Zones were able to coordinate playing an online game against each other. Zone 1 did not participate in the online gaming, but we had a small number of dedicated people turn out for some fun playing board games with each other. Attending Game Day in Zone 1 were: COMM Goulet, MCPO Alan Goulet, LT Michael Cross, MCPT Roon Marchant, ENS Colin Gabbert, CDR Tracy Clark, and BDR Tank Clark. Several games were played, including Trivial Pursuit and Star Trek UNO, and even more games were purchased, including the new Star Wars RPG (bought by Michael) and Axis & Allies: War At Sea (bought by Tank). BRAVO ZULU to LT Cross, for organizing and running this event. Clark, commanding Regulator, out. Away Mission: Alliance Air Show, Fort Worth, TX The landing party to the Air Show consisted of the Captain, BDR Clark, and the ship's CMO, CDR Clark. We arrived on site around 0900 local time, and quickly blended in with the crowd. There were a wide variety of aircraft on static display, ranging from small private planes (including a very small glider) and large cargo ships (like a FedEx 757), to WW2 vintage aircraft (including 8 Zeros, a B-24, a B-29, several Cargo aircraft, a P-40 Warhawk, a Mustang, and many others). There was an old Soviet MiG-17, too. There were also ground vehicles: several WW2-vintage jeeps, trucks, and half-tracks; quite a few motorcycles -- most with sidecars -- from that era; an assault gun (self-propelled artillery); and a M50 Super Sherman tank. A part of an old Air Force One was on display, with the interior decorated as it was when President L. B. Johnson was sworn in. Several T-38s were on-site as well, both as static displays and as part of the airshow. Food was moderately priced, for this type of event. Very few vendors took anything but cash. In the future, we'll also make sure we wear & bring sun-screen, as our faces became very burnt. The air show itself was very enjoyable, although each of the propeller-driven aircraft seemed to do the same tricks that the one before did. As the military demonstration squadrons were shut down by the current U.S. President's government, none of them were in attendance, but a civilian team called the Black Diamonds performed in T-38s -- a beautiful aircraft, and an awesome show. Perhaps the best part of the show was when the Japanese aircraft belonging to the Commemorative Air Force (what used to be called the Confederate Air Force) did mock bombing/strafing runs on the airfield. This part of the show, called "TORA, TORA, TORA!" included a large amount of pyrotechnics, and was amazing to witness. Fun was had by all who attended, and those who were unable to attend were missed. Clark, commanding Regulator, out Klingon Dinner Thing
