Mirror Month: Ship's Meeting
Shady Oak's BBQ, Ft Worth First Officer Clark, reporting In attendance at this month's fun-filled meeting: FCAPT Tank Clark, RADM Liz Goulet, CDR Tracy Clark, LT Perry Brulotte, LT Sean Washburn, MCPO Alan Goulet, SCPO Michelle Goulet, and CMN Melissa Brulotte. Tank was Officer of the Deck, and his 20-question quiz on the Mirror universe proved quite challenging. Sean won, with 17/20; in second place was Perry, with 12/20. After-Action Reports included the three Regulators who attended FenCon XII on Stardate 11509.27. FCAPT Clark, Maj. Marchant, and CWO2 Wilkerson had lots of fun & enjoyed the panels, the dealer room, and the fellowship this fan-run convention engenders. The other ship's activity was the Grapevine Vintage Train ride between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards, on Stardate 11510.10. FCAPT Clark, CDR Clark, Maj. Marchant and LT Brulotte had a great time, and we will most likely repeat this Landing Party in the future. Upcoming activities were also discussed: the Science Dept's Landing Party to the Fort Worth Zoo (we're getting discounted tickets) on Stardate 11511.07; the Klingon Dinner Thing potluck on Stardate 11511.21; the Landing Party to see the Sci-Fi Factory's private showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII) on Stardate 11512.19. We mentioned doing a holiday party, in either December or in January -- we'll decide later. We also mentioned the next Region 3 Summit in Odessa on Stardates 11606.26-29; the International Conference in New Orleans in Aug 2017. As part of our research for a bid on 2017's Region 3 Summit, we found a great organization called CARE (Center for Animal Research and Education), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to education, research, rescue, and long-term care for exotic animals, located in Bridgeport, TX. CARE currently provides a permanent home to over 40 animals including mountain lions, African lions, tigers, black and spotted leopards, ring-tail lemurs, a llama (named "Dolly") and a coati. We plan to send a Landing Party to visit CARE. Many of the Departments of the ship are tasked to host various activities. The Science Department hosts trips to museums or activities of scientific interest; the Klingons host the annual Klingon Dinner Thing, the Rangers host game days; the Marines host the trip to the Alliance Air Show, and the Helm Department mostly hosts every other non-meeting activity. The OIC of the Marines mentioned looking into other activities as well, like a Bar Crawl in Fort Worth or a Marine Mess. The Rangers will be scheduling another Game Day whenever an opening in our ship's calendar appears. The SFSO's uniform manual has been updated, replacing the Gray TOS uniforms with Hunter Green TOS uniforms (with Red remaining an option.) In short, the USS Regulator remains a very busy, fun-loving ship, in the "regular" universe or in the Mirror-verse! Fleet Captain Tank "Bazinga" Clark, SFMD First Officer, USS REGULATOR NCC-2009

Landing Party Grapevine Vintage Railroad The Landing Party, consisting of Fleet Captain Tank Clark, Commander Tracy Clark, Lieutenant Perry Brulotte, and Major Roon Marchant, rendezvoused at the Grapevine Depot on Main Street, Grapevine, TX, around noon. We arranged for tickets and eagerly boarded the train to begin our journey to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Unfortunately, the Railroad crew discovered a fault on the steam locomotive that was scheduled to pull the train, so it was replaced by a Diesel locomotive. We were in one of the two 1927 open-air touring coaches, as they were both less expensive and wheelchair accessible. The other coaches on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad are four luxurious 1925 day coaches. All four day coaches have been restored to their full Victorian-era glory and the two open-air coaches are extremely popular in the spring and fall months. After they traded out the locomotives, we were on our way. Our tricorders indicated an average speed of approximately 17 miles per hour, with a top speed of 33 mph. Several other passengers stopped by to talk with us about Star Trek, as did many of the Railroad's employees. The scenery was wonderful, and the weather was pleasant -- a bit warm for October in North Texas, but clear & beautiful. Upon arriving at the Fort Worth Stockyards, we wandered around looking at the sites. Commander Clark was persuaded to pose whilst on top of a very tame bull, and Fleet Captain Clark found himself an inexpensive, nice looking cowboy hat. We had originally intended on eating lunch in the Stockyards, but every eating establishment was very full, with a very long wait to get in. Instead, we did a bit of shopping and wandering around. We boarded the train around 4:00 pm to return to Grapevine. Along the way, we had to sit and wait for a while, as a train was stopped on the same tracks in front of us. It finally moved, and we traveled the remaining distance without incident. At the Grapevine Depot, Lt Brulotte separated from the rest of the party to return to the ship, whilst Maj. Marchant joined the Clarks at Bo-Bo China, a fantastic Chinese restaurant in Grapevine for dinner. A wonderful time, a great trip, and a couple of fun rides. The USS Regulator was well represented, and interacted with the public with our typical friendly aplomb. Fleet Captain Clark, First Officer of the USS Regulator, out. |
